Washing windows without streaks: how to do it
Streak‑free windows in five steps, with the right tools. Plus: when it’s better to call in a window cleaner.

Nothing is as irritating as streaks on freshly washed windows. With the right supplies and order, it works.
What do you need?
- Bucket of lukewarm water with a small splash of dish soap
- Window washer or sponge
- Squeegee (rubber in good condition)
- Two dry microfibre cloths or cheesecloth
In five steps
- First the frames: otherwise dirty water will run over your clean glass.
- Wet with the washer, loosen dirt well.
- Pull from top to bottom, or in an S-motion. Wipe the rubber dry after each pass.
- Dry the edges with a dry cloth.
- Go over from the side you weren’t standing on: streaks are often only visible from the other side.
Not in direct sunlight. Then the water dries too quickly and you get streaks. Choose an overcast day or a shaded side.
Do it yourself inside, or have it done outside?
The interior can easily be included in your regular cleaning (with 321clean as an extra half‑hour). For high exterior windows you need the right equipment and experience; then post a job and request quotes from window cleaners and cleaning companies.
